The Other.

A theme that I have experienced as of late. The idea that we designate an other, it seems that it used to be that the 'other' was a predator that might be stalking our family or 'tribe'. Then we eliminated most of the potential 'others'that weren't human. Then we are left with human 'others'. Those humans who do not share our cosmology, our genetic infrastructure, our socio-political beleifs, or our monitary value are somehow put into a category that makes them not one of us. When this happens, all sorts of things become fair game.

It seems anymore that with the modern isolation and lack of community, apathy and antipathy abound. On some level, it reminds me that I should be vigilant in embracing my 'others'. Certainly there are human predators, and the tough part is trying to understand which person is on the cusp of shedding their predatory habits, and which one is firm in keeping that predatory mantle.

I hope to remain present and empathetic toward those who have the petential to become human again.
